Facilitator grills students at seminar presentation

One of the course requirements for the completion of students' academic programmes in the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is the seminar presentation based on chosen field of study, and this was the crux of a seminar presentation at the Enugu study centre recently.

The facilitator/seminar supervisor, who is also an examiner, Dr Achilike I. Nicholas, in his remarks, said among others that seminar presentation helps students to understand more on the subject on their own, interact with the people which would turn out to be useful in their later lives.

Nicholas disclosed that such students would also learn their mistakes and improve on their seminar presentation skills, saying it was a chance to collect more information about the seminar topic they were provided with.

NOUN News gathered that students who presented their seminar offer courses such as Co-operative Management, Entrepreneurship and Business Management and M.Sc. Business Administration.

The facilitator had earlier said that notwithstanding the seminar presentations groupings, each student would be grilled to ascertain the level of their contributions to the body of knowledge.

The first group, led by Aluu Donald Oko, presented a paper titled ''Application of Total Quality Management Techniques in the Manufacturing Sector of Nigerian Economy'', and canvassed for a total quality management as a philosophy of management that strives to make the best use of all available resources and opportunities by constant improvement.

Another group, headed by Egbogu Ogechukwu Victoria, delivered a paper on ''The Impact of Employee Participation in Management Decision Making on Organisational Performance''.

Other topics presented among others include: “The Effects of Performance Management Practices on Employee Productivity'', ''Determinants of Entrepreneurial Intentions among College Students in Enugu State'' (Case Study of ESUT), “An Assessment of Management Performance of Public Enterprises in Nigeria” (A study of Enugu State Transport Company Limited).

During the seminar, each student in all the groups or as an individual presentation was cross- examined to test the degree of his/her intellectualism on the topics under discussion.

However, at the end of the session, the facilitator commended the effort of the students and asked them to effect the necessary corrections.
